Coal mining in Luxi Coal Mine, Shandong Province affects the environment and regional sustainable development. Using GIS, researchers found that coal mining increases the ecological footprint in the area. To reduce environmental damage, new reclamation methods should be adopted to protect ecological land and prevent degradation of cultivated land.
