Far-red light breakthrough boosts lettuce seed germination by 104 times!
Lettuce seeds can be made to sprout by a little bit of far-red light. If they get too much far-red light, they can still sprout with a lot more red light. This shows that a special kind of phytochrome is involved in this process. This phytochrome is also found in other plants and algae.
