Performance measurement in municipal government has been talked about for a long time, but it's not always put into practice. Recently, there has been a renewed interest in using performance measures to improve how local governments work. A survey of U.S. cities with populations over 25,000 shows that while there is more talk about using performance measures, it's still not clear how much they are actually being used in a meaningful way.
