Moso bamboo outperforms China fir in carbon sequestration potential.
The study compared carbon storage in moso bamboo and China fir forests in Taiwan. China fir forests had higher aboveground carbon levels than moso bamboo forests. Moso bamboo grows faster, sequestering more carbon per year than China fir. However, China fir forests store more carbon overall due to their longer lifespan. The ratio of moso bamboo to China fir is 2.39, showing a significant difference in carbon levels between the two species. Overall, moso bamboo has high potential for carbon sequestration.
