Storms to Cause More Beach Erosion and Flooding, New Model Predicts
Severe storms can cause significant changes to beaches, dunes, and barrier islands by eroding them and causing flooding. A new analytical model was developed to predict how beaches respond to storms, including overwash events. The model was tested using real data from Ocean City and the Ebro Delta to calculate erosion volumes, overwash volumes, and other impacts. This information can help assess the risks of flooding and erosion in coastal areas.
