Bovine embryos thrive in oviductal cells, paving way for improved livestock breeding
One-cell bovine embryos were cultured in different conditions to see how they develop. The embryos grew best when placed with oviductal epithelial cells in a special liquid called TCM-199. They didn't grow as well in just TCM-199 or in mouse oviducts. Embryos in oviductal cells had more cells than those in TCM-199 or mouse oviducts. The mouse oviducts didn't provide a good environment for the embryos to grow. So, the best way to help one-cell bovine embryos grow into blastocysts is to use oviductal cells in TCM-199.
