Coastal lagoon entrances rapidly evolve, impacting estuarine systems and sediment transport.
Researchers observed how a coastal lagoon entrance closed up due to a growing beach berm. They found that the berm grew rapidly upwards, not outwards towards the sea. Sediment from waves washing over the berm was measured, helping to predict how much sediment filled the entrance. A model they created matched well with the real-world data, showing promise for predicting how beach berms grow and change over time.
