New wheat cultivars 'Takahe' and 'Kopara 73' show significant yield increases!
Two new wheat cultivars, 'Takahe' and 'Kopara 73', were tested in field trials to see how well they produced grain. 'Takahe' did better than 'Aotea' when powdery mildew was present, with a 9% increase in yield. 'Kopara 73' consistently outperformed the original 'Kopara' release, with a 6.7% increase in yield. Compared to 'Aotea' and 'Takahe', 'Kopara 73' had a 13.4% and 7.0% higher yield, respectively. Both 'Aotea' and 'Takahe' responded similarly to nitrogen, but 'Kopara 73' did better. No differences were seen with superphosphate.
