Sun vs. Shade Leaves: How Different Pigment Levels Impact Photosynthesis
Green sun leaves of ginkgo and beech trees have higher chlorophyll and carotenoid levels compared to shade leaves. Sun leaves also have higher photosynthetic rates and stomatal conductance. The differences in pigment levels and photosynthetic activity between sun and shade leaves are reflected in various chlorophyll fluorescence parameters. Ginkgo leaves, like beech leaves, show adaptations to both high and low light conditions.
