The study looked at how tidal levels rise before high tides in Lingdingyang bay. They used numerical calculations to show that the shape of tidal waves affects water levels. Tidal levels increase along the bay due to a rapid decrease in the cross-sectional area from the bay mouth to the bay head. This creates a big difference in flow rates between the two areas.
