Insoluble protein-dye complexes challenge accuracy of protein assays.
The researchers found that the protein-Coomassie brilliant blue complexes formed in protein dye-binding assays are insoluble. This was determined by observing complete loss of color in the supernates and filtrates of the assay mix. The solubility of proteins in the dye reagent affects how the assay responds to different proteins and their macromolecular structures.
