Water pollution crisis in Zimbabwe's Chivero Basin threatens city's water supply
The study looked at water management in Lake Chivero, Zimbabwe, focusing on controlling nutrients. They found high levels of nitrates and phosphates in the water, mainly from treatment plant issues and pollution from pastures and urban runoff. The existing water infrastructure can meet current demand, but 77% of the water in the basin is being used. The researchers suggest integrated solutions to address these issues, considering new water regulations. They also developed a biological monitoring system for water quality and a rainfall runoff model for urban areas. The data collected could be used to create a Management Information System for the basin.
