Solar cycle 24 weakens, impacting satellite operations and climate predictions.
Solar cycles 22 to 24 were studied to understand how they affect solar activity. Cycle 22 had the most severe activity in the 1990s. Cycle 23 lasted from 1996 to 2008 and was long, with a maximum sunspot number of 120.8. Cycle 24, starting in 2008, is weak and slow to ramp up. Sunspot numbers show an 11-year cycle, affecting satellite operators and climate predictions.
