The article presents a method to help engineers choose design criteria and set up optimization problems in computer-aided design. The method involves adjusting initial optimization results to determine design preferences. By using a weighted-sum multi-objective approach, the method simplifies the optimization problem and makes it easier to solve. Tests on structural shape optimization problems show that this method can identify the key criteria and formulation needed for interactive user modifications.
