Estrogen Receptor in Pituitary Cells: Key to Hormone Regulation Unveiled!
Estrogen receptor cells in the pituitary gland of male and female rats were identified using antibodies against different hormones. Somatotrophs, lactotrophs, and gonadotrophs had the highest percentage of estrogen receptor cells. ACTH- and TSHβ-positive cells were less than 3%. Male rats had more somatotrophs. In females, gonadotrophs and lactotrophs varied during the sexual cycle, peaking at proestrus. Estrogen likely controls LH and PRL secretion through estrogen receptors in all hormone-producing cells, including somatotrophs.
