Intensive cropping systems in Northern Great Plains lead to higher profits.
Intensive cropping systems in North Dakota can be more profitable than traditional crop-fallow rotations. By comparing different tillage methods and nitrogen levels, researchers found that the intensive cropping system generated higher profits, although they were more variable. Minimum tillage was the most profitable within the intensive cropping system. Using higher nitrogen rates led to larger profits. Overall, the intensive cropping system with minimum tillage or no-till was more profitable than the traditional crop-fallow system with conventional tillage.
