Newly Discovered Moss Species in Ireland Resembles Habitats in Norway
The discovery of Sphagnum subfulvum in Western Ireland is reported. The habitat of the species at Errisbeg, Co. Galway, closely resembles its ecology in Norway. S. subfulvum in Ireland belongs to lawn and low hummock vegetation. It is also found on flushed mountain slopes in West Mayo, indicating localised basic conditions. The species is reported from raised bog in Co. Roscommon, which is unexpected but not uncommon in Western Ireland's ombrotrophic vegetation.
