The genetic algorithm introduced in the article helps solve the problem of clustering data without needing the user to specify the number of clusters. By adjusting a parameter called "w", users can control the clustering outcome, creating either many compact clusters or fewer looser clusters. The algorithm can also automatically find a good clustering solution using a heuristic strategy. The experiments conducted show that this genetic clustering algorithm is effective for clustering data with compact spherical clusters.
