Ammonium salts boost maize growth and protein production in dark conditions
The researchers studied how different types of ammonium salts affect the growth and nitrogen assimilation in maize seedlings. They found that ammonium nitrate and sometimes ammonium chloride are the best sources for root and shoot growth, protein increase, and enzyme activity. In roots, nitrogen is assimilated through two pathways, while in shoots, it mainly occurs through one pathway.
