Current environmental management systems fail to indicate organizations' environmental performance.
The article evaluates current environmental management systems to see how well they show an organization's environmental performance. They look at two main systems, BS EN ISO 14001:1996 and EMAS 761/2001 EEC. Right now, these systems don't require organizations to talk about their overall environmental performance. They focus on controlling human activities that impact the environment, but don't say how well this control is working. The article suggests using quality awards to classify environmental performance.
