Chilean firms were hit hard during the 2008-09 global financial crisis. The crisis had a bigger negative impact on firms that relied more on external financing, were sensitive to changes in demand, and were heavily involved in international trade. Firms with a lot of foreign currency debt saw larger drops in sales, but their investments and profits were not significantly different from other firms.
