Irrigation in New Mexico Valley Boosts Shallow Aquifer Replenishment Levels
Irrigation in a dry area of New Mexico can help refill the underground water supply. By studying irrigation effects, researchers found that the water from irrigation can seep into the ground and replenish the shallow aquifer. They used different methods to measure how much water was going into the aquifer, both at small and large scales. The results showed that irrigation can add a significant amount of water to the aquifer, especially in areas with permeable soil. This study helps us understand how water from irrigation and canals can affect the underground water levels in agricultural valleys.
