Severe chemical weathering in granodiorite threatens environmental stability in subtropical regions.
The study looked at how a type of rock called granodiorite breaks down in different ways in different parts of a weathering profile. They found that physical weathering, like rocks breaking apart, happens more at the bottom, while chemical weathering, like minerals changing chemically, is more common at the top. This happens in places with a lot of oxygen, like warm, humid climates. The researchers will now look at how long the original minerals in the rock last in this kind of environment.
