High self-esteem individuals persist longer after failure, impacting performance outcomes.
High self-esteem individuals tend to persist more after failure, even when it's not helpful. This study looked at how different people respond to information about when to keep trying and when to stop. High self-esteem people kept trying longer on impossible puzzles when told persistence helps. Low self-esteem people stopped sooner when told persistence doesn't affect performance. This shows that high self-esteem individuals use information better to decide when to keep going or give up.
