Soil in Dobi, Nigeria unsuitable for rice cultivation, threatening food security
In Dobi, Nigeria, scientists checked if the soil is good for growing rice. They dug soil samples at two depths and looked at stuff like pH, nutrients, and chemicals in the soil. They found that the soil's high pH might not be ideal for rice. But the organic carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, and cation exchange capacity levels are good for growing rice. However, the high calcium and magnesium levels due to the pH could limit rice growth. The study advised using lots of NKP fertilizer and using salt-free water for irrigation to help with the soil's high pH. It's important to evaluate the land and use the right nutrients for sustainable rice farming in the future.
