Historical value reigns supreme in evaluating modern cultural heritage criteria.
The study aimed to provide criteria for evaluating modern cultural heritage found by local residents and historians. The researchers looked at how the value criteria for cultural heritage have changed over time, from focusing on architectural and aesthetic value to including social-cultural, academic, and economic value. Through paired comparison, they found that historical value is the most important criterion, while aesthetic value is rated lower than social-cultural and academic values. This shows a shift towards valuing the social and cultural aspects of modern cultural heritage over its beauty.
