A new state of CO2++ breaking into CO++O+ with a lifespan of 2.3 μsec was discovered. The peaks at (M1/q1)=35.6 and (M2/q2)=11.6 show repulsion energy of 2.7 eV and charge separation of 5.3 Å. CO2++ needs 38.0 eV to appear, leading to immediate CO+(2Σ) and O+ fragmentation. CO2++ with O18 has lower yield than with O16 and O18.
