Red and far red light inhibit seed germination in new study
The study found that cool fluorescent white light can stop Aristida murinaCav. seeds from sprouting. Red and far red light also prevent germination, showing that a plant pigment called phytochrome is involved in this process. Both red and far red light, when used alone or in specific combinations, can inhibit seed germination. These results suggest that phytochrome has a specific threshold for action in controlling seed germination.
