A new method has been developed to measure how uniform microstructures are. This method uses the Gini index to create parameters that describe different aspects of homogeneity in images of materials. By applying this method to Al-Si casting alloys and cast iron, researchers were able to evaluate how uniform these materials are. The method can be adjusted and combined with other techniques for different research needs.
