Male fertility not determined by sperm count, new method reveals.
Male fertility in Penaeus monodon was studied using a new method. Female shrimp were inseminated with sperm from different males, and the fertilization rates were compared. The study found that the number of sperm or their appearance did not predict fertilization success. Some males had high variability in fertilization rates, showing that sperm quality is important for fertility. This new approach can help predict which males are more likely to fertilize eggs successfully.
