Soil erosion in Ethiopia threatens agricultural sustainability, study finds.
The researchers tested and evaluated the AGNPS model on Augucho catchment in Ethiopia to understand soil erosion. They used data from 8-10 years to calibrate and validate the model. Results showed good predictions for sediment yield and peak runoff rate, but not for runoff. The model estimated an average soil loss of 22 tons per hectare per year, much higher than the rate of soil formation.
