Perceived parental support boosts children's motivation and school performance.
The study looked at how kids' views of their parents affect their motivation and school performance. Kids who felt their moms and dads supported their independence and were involved in their lives felt more competent and in control. This led to better school performance. Kids who felt their moms were supportive and involved felt more autonomous and competent, while those who felt their dads were supportive and involved felt more competent and independent. Overall, kids who had supportive parents and felt competent, in control, and autonomous did better in school.
