Electric vehicles at risk of overheating without improved battery pack thermal management.
A new model was created to study how lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles generate and release heat. By using this model, researchers found that it predicts battery temperatures more accurately than previous models. They also discovered that in hot weather, the temperature of a large battery pack can reach 50-60 °C after driving an electric vehicle. This means that electric vehicles need a system to keep the batteries cool to prevent overheating.
