Bay of Bengal pollution levels surpass Arabian Sea during winter.
The study found high levels of ozone and related gases over the Bay of Bengal during winter and early spring of 2001. Ozone levels were higher in the central Bay of Bengal compared to coastal regions due to different wind patterns. The south of the Bay had higher ozone levels than the Arabian Sea. The elevated ozone levels were linked to higher levels of CO, CH4, and SF6, suggesting pollution transport from the continent. Overall, the air over the Bay of Bengal was found to be more polluted than the Arabian Sea during this season.
