New Study Reveals ABA's Limited Impact on Maize Seedling Drought Response
The researchers investigated how a plant hormone called abscisic acid (ABA) affects an enzyme called proline dehydrogenase (PDH) in maize seedlings. They found that low levels of ABA led to a small decrease in PDH activity, but higher levels had no effect. This decrease was less than what was seen under drought stress. ABA did not play a significant role in the link between drought stress and reduced PDH activity. Overall, the study showed that ABA treatment had a minor impact on PDH activity in maize seedlings compared to drought stress.
