Suburban watershed faces water quality crisis, urgent action needed for improvement.
The study used a computer model called SWAT to assess water quality in a suburban area in New Jersey. The model was able to predict streamflow and water quality fairly well, but underestimated how quickly water flows in the area. The data showed that levels of nitrogen and phosphorus in the water were concerning, and that measures need to be taken to reduce these pollutants by 9% and 49% respectively to meet water quality standards.
