Sphagnum mosses reveal key elements distribution in Polish bogs
The study looked at different types of Sphagnum moss in bogs in southwestern Poland to see how much nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, magnesium, sodium, and iron they contained. They found that S. lindbergii had the highest levels of these elements, while S. balticum and S. cuspidatum had the lowest. Mosses in wetter areas had more calcium and magnesium, while those in drier areas had more sodium. Nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium were found in higher amounts in the top green parts of the moss, while sodium and iron were more concentrated in the bottom brown parts. Calcium and magnesium levels were the same in both parts.
