Rainfall variability threatens food security in rural Mali, remittances offer temporary relief.
The study looked at how rainfall patterns and money sent by family members affect food security in rural Mali. Researchers used a survey from 2005 to create a food security index and analyze data. They found that unpredictable rainfall makes it harder for households to have enough food, especially in southern Mali. On the other hand, receiving money from relatives helps in short-term food shortages, but doesn't solve long-term food problems.
