Chronic Stress Decouples Hormonal Responses, Reshaping Adaptation Mechanisms
Chronic stress affects corticosterone and growth hormone levels in rats differently. Acute stress raises corticosterone and lowers growth hormone, but chronic stress reduces corticosterone response while leaving growth hormone response unchanged. Exposure to noise-light stress alters corticosterone but not growth hormone response to a dog. This shows that the body's reactions to stress can vary between hormones.
