Soils Retain Moisture with Surprising 25-Atmosphere Force, Transforming Farming and Water Management
Soils hold moisture with a force of about 25 atmospheres at their hygroscopic coefficient. Surface forces of loam soils within the hygroscopic moisture range are constant and depend on the soil's hygroscopic coefficient. Sand behaves differently in terms of moisture holding forces. The curve for soil forces suggests that water retention values near saturation with water vapor are too high.
