Revolutionary simulation method accelerates light propagation through turbid media.
A new Monte Carlo simulation method for light passing through cloudy materials has been developed. This method uses two stages to accurately calculate how light scatters in these materials. The first stage evaluates the impact of each scattering event on the total light reflection and transmission, reducing the number of steps needed for accurate results. The second stage uses the first stage's results to easily calculate any desired outcome. This new method shows better convergence and allows for easy calculation of related quantities without redoing the simulation. The results obtained with this new method match those of traditional Monte Carlo methods.
