Limited budgets and varied collections hinder access to LIS materials.
The article discusses how libraries collect materials related to library and information science. A survey was conducted in 2010 to understand how and why these materials are chosen by librarians at certain institutions. The findings show that most libraries focus on supporting librarians and staff in their work and professional development. However, budgets for these materials are usually small, and selectors don't receive many requests for new materials. The criteria for selecting materials vary by institution, but are often limited in terms of subject, publisher, and audience. Additionally, most selectors are responsible for collecting materials in multiple subject areas and are involved in tasks beyond collection development.
