Climate Agreements Fail to Curb Soaring Greenhouse Gas Emissions, Threatening Humanity's Future
Climate change agreements have not been successful in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Despite multiple conferences and agreements, emissions continue to rise. The main problem lies in the negotiating framework and principles used, which have not led to effective global action. Major emitters are not held accountable, and specific targets to address the issue have not been agreed upon. This research provides an overview of past climate agreements, identifies the issues, and suggests a way forward for governments, negotiators, students, researchers, and the general public concerned about managing climate change.
