Complaining about others excludes them from social participation, study finds.
The article explores how complaining about someone who is present can exclude them from the conversation. In Danish home help visits, caregivers often complain about the care recipient, leading to their exclusion from the interaction. When the care recipient complains about a caregiver, the complaint is usually rejected, and the caregiver is not excluded. This shows that our social roles and activities influence how we participate in conversations and who gets excluded.
