The European Union has been working on gender equality for a long time, but there are still problems. Different policies can unintentionally create gender differences. This article introduces a special issue that talks about these issues. It also looks at ways to make sure men and women are treated equally in EU policies. The article suggests that some strategies for gender equality might not work well with EU goals. If gender equality isn't a big part of EU policies, new gender differences can happen because of other policies. The article doesn't give clear answers, but it adds to the discussion on how to make sure men and women are treated equally in the EU.
