New white field pea 'Rex' boosts crop yields in New Zealand.
A new white field pea called 'Rex' has been developed for farmers in Canterbury, New Zealand. It was bred by S. A. Nickerson and has shown high and consistent seed yields in trials over four seasons. 'Rex' has a traditional plant structure with upright growth, white seeds with yellow insides, and an average weight of 260 grams per 1000 seeds. This new pea variety is expected to be beneficial for arable cropping in the region.
