Aging Contaminated Soils Reveal Zinc Mobility Linked to Soil pH
Researchers studied how zinc behaves in contaminated soils with varying properties and zinc levels. They used a seven-step extraction process to analyze 49 soils and found that in acidic soils, zinc was mainly in mobile forms, while in neutral soils, it was more mobilizable. The extractability of zinc increased with higher zinc contamination levels. Soil pH and zinc content were key factors influencing zinc behavior. The findings suggest that soil pH and zinc content play a significant role in how zinc is distributed in contaminated soils.
