Fish farming impacts zooplankton community structure in tropical reservoir.
The researchers studied how fish cage farming affects tiny animals in a tropical reservoir. They thought more animals would be near the cages because of extra food. They checked the animals near, upstream, and downstream from the cages before and after setting them up. They found that the number of tiny animals increased at first, then decreased, and finally increased again. The tiny animals called rotifers were more near the cages, but overall, there were more tiny animals at a different spot. The amount of food available affected how many tiny animals were there. The researchers concluded that fish farming can impact the tiny animal community in the reservoir.
