Silver carp mainly eat phytoplankton, while bighead carp eat zooplankton and detritus in addition to phytoplankton. Bighead carp filter larger particles than silver carp. Bighead carp readily eat artificial feed, while silver carp do not. Bighead carp grow significantly faster with artificial feed, while silver carp grow faster in cages than bighead carp.
