Toxic flame retardants found in Kuwait sewage sludge pose environmental threat.
The researchers studied levels of a type of chemical called PBDEs in sewage sludge from three wastewater treatment plants in Kuwait. They found that PBDEs were present in all samples, with varying concentrations at each plant. BDE 209 was the most common type of PBDE found in the samples. The levels of PBDEs showed a seasonal trend, with lower concentrations in the fall and higher concentrations in the winter.
